Da Zeez and I wanted to make a rap video, but first we needed a song. I had always felt that Ace Frehley’s “New York Groove” would make a popular hip-hop sample and I welcomed the opportunity to give it a try. However, sampling was not my forte. So we borrowed a 4-track and started from scratch. Applying Ace’s original concept to the familiarity of midtown Memphis, we joined forces with the local ladies and Rapitition exploded onto the scene.
