While I have literally walked away from every job I’ve been on with more than I started with, this ranks as one of the best.

The execution was simple: Nathan Black hired me to operate 2nd camera for a behind-the-scenes video during a recording session. The extraordinary part was who was recording..and where. Terrence Howard was there, but he wasn’t the star–at least not to me.

Spending time with the house band at Royal Studios was amazing. Seeing these guys write and talk about old times was nothing short of an honor.

The studio is in a 1920s movie theater and hasn’t changed much since the ’60s. Notice the insulation insulation.

Wow. While there’s been news to report almost every day, the time to share it has been limited–at best.

The Chevrolet ads came out great and hopefully will air soon. I’ll add a link once the deal is final.

The big news, and the gist of my lack of time recently, was my relocating for a full-time Producer/Director position. I make this post from my new office at Mississippi Public Broadcasting. The move from Brooklyn to Jackson, MS, has been busy and intense, to say the least. But while the change has been a shock to my routine, being back in the south has been somewhat of a welcome change. I have to admit: while I sorely miss the tight community of educated professional creatives who are some of my closest friends in the world, I’m not going to miss elbowing my way onto the L train–or the flannels and the mustaches that ride said train. Not to diss Brooklyn–I love and miss it. But the chance to experience something new and work in a position where I will thrive is something I will undoubtedly cherish.

Oh. Did I mention I recorded with my Brooklyn band, Kill Fee, before I left? (We were a band of professional freelance filmmakers and the name references the frustration of being booked on a job that cancels with less than 24hrs notice. Kill Fee would be the ideal situation where we would still be able to charge for the lost day.) I’ll throw up some photos when I get a chance.

Memphis, TN:

I am pleased to announce this opportunity to work with Ryan Parker (DP) on these potentially global spots!

Cars:
Any recent Chevy (needs to be in decent shape)

Email photos to chevy@newperspectivefilms.com. Use “[YEAR + MODEL]” for the subject heading (example: 2009 SILVERDADO).

Location:
Two story home with driveway and garage/carport. Ideally a spare bedroom or room that looks like a teenage boy’s room looking out over the driveway, though we can cheat just about anything. A few shots will take place in the bedroom and hall, the rest of it will take place in the garage and on the driveway. The crew is tiny (4 people) and will not need access to any other rooms or areas of the house. Please take a photo of the front of the house, and one of the hall leading to the bedrooms, and a photo of the spare (or boy’s) bedroom and email them to chevy@newperspectivefilms.com. Use “LOCATION” for your subject heading.”

Actors:

Shooting Tuesday, January 24th | 11:30am to 5:30pm
Male: mid 30s to mid 40s
Female: early 30s to early 40s
Girl: 13-15
Boy: 9-14

Shooting Friday, January 27th | 7:30am to 1:30pm
Male: mid-late teens
Female: mid-late teens
Female: early to late 40s

Please email photos and a little info about yourself to: chevy@newperspectivefilms.com. Use “ACTOR [+ ROLE LISTED ABOVE]” for the subject. (example: ACTOR: FEMALE EARLY TO LATE 40s). You DO NOT need to send duplicates if you want to be considered for more than one part. Simply note that in the BODY of your email.

This is gonna be fun!
