Jimbo segment

I almost forgot about this. It aired back in April. I suppose I wasn’t thrilled at the time since MPB re-edited my version before they aired it (and it’s missing his Letterman and Regis appearances here due to web licensing). Still, it’s 80% what I meant for it to be. Jimbo and I are old acquaintances and he was a delight to work with.

Be on the lookout for the director’s cut in 2038 to celebrate it’s 25th anniversary!

Go Grizz!

Friday, the Memphis Grizzlies advanced to the second round of the NBA playoffs for the second time in franchise history. The energy in the arena was amazing as 22,000 fans were cheering the Grizz to victory over the L.A. Clippers in game six, 118-105. Not much gets Memphians out, much less together. The Grizzlies are an exception — especially when they’re winning.
If I’m being honest, I’m not the biggest sports fan. But the spirit and unity behind this team is something I can really get behind. Memphis has had it’s share of challenges all throughout history — from the sanitation strike to bike lanes; it’s great to be here at a time when things are on an upswing.

GO GRIZZ!!

Here and there real quick

It’s been a while since I slung a hammer so I was happy to help my friend redo a rotten rim joist and redo some siding on his house last week.
We also added insulation; apparently it hadn’t been invented in 1908.

Although it was almost cancelled due to weather and FAA sequestration, I also managed to make a trip to NY and NJ this week to see some close friends and family in between some writing work. It was an AWESOME trip, albeit a little cold. (Having moved from NY barely a year ago, I’m surprised how quickly I found northeast weather “chilly.”)

I’m in St. Louis now visiting more family, then back to the south tomorrow…

Roky says it best

As spring springs up around me, I’m reminded of this awesome song.

I’ve been working on set a lot, too, but who wants to hear about that on such a nice day?!

Memphis in March

I got to see Leonard Cohen at the Orpheum on Sunday. The End.

In other news, I’ve been shooting and editing on the Luster Bayless doc, and working on others’ films in varying capacities. I miss Jackson, and I’m glad to be free. More to come…

New frontiers

February was busier than expected. My job with MPB is over and I spent a considerable amount of time wrapping up a few documentary segments I’ve been working on. I’m still working to finish the Luster Bayless and North Mississippi Allstars pieces which I am excited to share soon.

With the job ending, so did my stay in Jackson, MS. And I have to say: I’ll miss it a lot more than I thought. I find the pockets of this country where one must work extra hard to be creative very inspiring. Jackson is certainly one of them; it reminds me of my hometown, Memphis. I met some great people in Jackson whom I am certain I will continue collaborating with, and I made a LOT of progress with my documentary work (much of which has yet to air).

All that said, I am excited for the future. With the experience of PBS in Jackson, and my drive for new content fueling me, I feel good about what’s next. Many things brewing, not sure which will be ready to drink first, but they’ll all be equally satisfying in different ways.

Here’s a quick recap of February and early March:
I’ll be in Memphis freelancing and writing for the spring. It’s a great time to be here!
