Happy New Year!

Wow, where does a month go? Family visits around the holidays and a dear friend from Australia in town recently have made the past few weeks a whirlwind of fun and work–an ideal combo!

In addition to a few funded specs for Chevy, I’ve been working hard on a screenplay which is coming along great. I’m really looking forward to sharing more about how these projects develop over the coming weeks and months.

For now, check out the latest project from New Orleans organ wizard, Mr. Quintron. He is one of my favorite music artists in the world! If you’re not familiar with his work or his hand-made analog drum machines, the Drum Buddy, you should be! His latest record was recorded at the New Orleans Museum of Art during a three month residency/performance art installation. Great stuff! More about that here. For now, here’s a promo for his latest project, the Singing House.

Stay tuned for more–from both of us!

Prichard Smith – Motion Picture Editor

Here’s a quick shout-out for my friend, Prichard Thomas Smith, a fellow Memphis native. Since moving to New York City in 2004, Prichard has been hard at work editing three feature films and numerous web and promotional clips. Though not necessarily a skill I list on my CV, I was happy to make a website for him (now that he’s a big-timer with a rep and all).

Canon EOS C300 Camera Test

My buddy Jon Yi worked with Canon on the release of their new C300. It looks amazing…as displayed in his camera test (which has already garnered 100,000 views in 24 hours!).

From Jon’s Vimeo page:

In early Fall 2011, I shot some footage with a pre-production model of the Canon EOS C300 for one week in NYC. I created an article and a video for Canon based on my experiences with the camera. The video is meant to poke fun at most camera test videos I’ve seen over the years. Canon, not thrilled with my sense of humor, does not credit or condone this video, but I think it shows a lot of the camera’s strengths.

You can read my full article about the EOS C300 here. I believe that Canon made a beautiful camera that is sensible, reliable and portable in a way that I’ve always dreamed a camera could be. It prioritizes great skin tone and has higher ISO sensitivity than any other camera out there.

I know there’s nothing I can say to change the minds of the RED fan club. For the rest of the skeptics, I think once you get your hands on it you’ll understand how great this camera really is. Please buy this camera in January and go film some good skin tones in the dark. You’ll love it.

Thanks go out to all my friends for helping me with this.

Nice work, Jon!!

Melissa Dunn

My friend Melissa Dunn (who production designed 17 Inch Cobras) is currently showing her work at the Dixon museum in Memphis. I thought her works on paper were exceptionally extraordinary.

Pinhole…with a Canon 5D

I saw Holga lenses for the 5D and immediately wanted to try some pinhole shots. It needed a lot of light and the exposures were still long (since the “aperature” was so small). I think they turned out well for a quick experiment.
